My name is Keith Dench and I am the Recorders Group Coordinator. I can be contacted by email using the link above.
Meetings are fortnightly, usually in the 2nd and 4th weeks of the month, usually in the morning, usually on a Thursday.
Our group is not really suitable for complete beginners.
There is no limit to the size of the group and, at the moment, we have 12 members with an average attendance of 6 or 7 at each session. We meet twice a month in the houses of members as the group is not big enough to hire a hall. Meeting venues, dates and times depend on who is offering to host and what they can offer. There is no charge for taking part. Thursday (not the first Thursday of the month) morning meetings tend to be the most common. We play for 90 minutes at each meeting. You will need transport or be able to catch a bus.
Music we intend to play each month is notified by an attachment to an email; you have to get it printed, or transferred to a portable device, if you don't already have it. Members volunteer to act as “leaders” for a month, choosing the music and “running” the meetings. We could probably lend you copies of music just for a meeting as we have a library of master copies of the approx. 200 items. One member acts as “librarian” and sends out music as required. We try to have a mixture of easy and more difficult pieces, old and new, at each session. We can send you a list of the pieces in our library if you are interested.
You will need to bring the music, a music stand (and your recorder(s)) to each meeting.
As long as you are able to enjoy playing, ability isn’t a problem but, we do not give recorder lessons as such. Ideally you will practice the pieces before you come to a session. If you would like to meet/hear us you are welcome to attend a session just to listen.
If you would like to know more contact me, Keith (Group Coordinator) using the link above.
Note: The Gloucester u3a Recorder group meets every Monday morning in Matson; I can provide a contact. Your Stroud u3a membership covers you for membership of one Group in one other Cotswold Link area.
