Our group at Daglingworth

Our group Coordinator is Alan Severance and Richard Bedford is helping Alan as Group Admin.

The Stroud u3a mediaeval art and architecture (MAA) group meets monthly at a member's home. We share information and images on our subject and encourage interactive discussions. Additionally, we organise periodic outings to interesting sites many of which might be churches or other buildings with a religious connection (simply because organised religion and the church was such a dominating influence on Mediaeval society). We will also look at mediaeval manuscripts, jewellery, symbolism, stained glass etc. Recent and planned outings include, Saxon and early Norman churches near Cirencester, the archives at Gloucester Cathedral and, in the new year, a trip to Kilpeck and surroundings. Kilpeck is one of the oldest. finest and most intriguing of early churches.

The term "Mediaeval" may well be treated quite loosely covering Saxon, Norman and later periods up to and including the Tudor period. It's a personal preference to use the old english spelling of the word "mediaeval" - it somehow feels more authentic!

We regret that currently this group is full and cannot accept any new members for the foreseeable future.
